AMES: A Cooperative Production Management System supported by Digital Twins

"New technological paradigms of Industry 4.0, mainly driven by digitalization and cyber-physical systems, demand the update of traditional manufacturing management systems (MES), as these systems need to integrate intelligent predictive logics to, for example, anticipate failures, reduce downtime, and ensure better quality and stability in production. This article proposes the AMES (Advanced Manufacturing Execution System), a service-oriented system design integrated with a digital twin, to manage a manufacturing pilot plant within the principles of Industry 4.0. The result of this research is demonstrated in the AMES system, which includes the reconfiguration of a conventional MES into an MES 4.0 and its integration with a digital twin, whose effectiveness will be tested and validated in an advanced pilot plant."
