AN OVERVIEW OF BRAZILIAN LEGAL INSTRUMENTS ABOUT VINASSE

Despite the existence of numerous applications for vinasse, the absence of regulations governing its environmentally sound disposal and utilization may compromise the sustainability of the ethanol value chain. The objective of this study is to identify the federal and state legal instruments that address vinasse. A search was conducted for the term "vinasse" on the Brazilian Federal Government's Legislation Portal. A total of 13 legal instruments were identified, of which only two were specific to vinasse. It is noteworthy that, despite the paucity of legislation pertaining to vinasse, particularly at the state level, Brazil has a comprehensive legal framework governing the discharge of effluents.
