Bikesharing and urban mobility: a literature review

Resumo:

O crescente aumento das taxas de urbanização global e o consequente aumento de veículos automotores em cidades traz como consequência o aumento dos índices de congestionamentos e a marginalização de veículos de tração humana como a bicicleta, gerando um potencial conflito entre ciclistas e motoristas. O presente trabalho tem enfoque na discussão teórica dos aspectos positivos e negativos do uso compartilhado da bicicleta em centros urbanos. Para tal, uma revisão de literatura toma corpo para contextualizar o ciclista perante os usuários de veículos automotores no mundo, seguida por uma comparação com o cenário brasileiro. Fica evidente que, embora as cidades brasileiras possuam potencial demanda pelo serviço, a falta de investimento em infraestrutura cicloviária surge como obstáculo para a popularização da bicicleta como meio de transporte em pequenos e médios deslocamentos urbanos. O trabalho contribui para a discussão tocante à mobilidade e acessibilidade urbanas ao expor as dificuldades do uso da bicicleta nas cidades brasileiras.

Resumo:

The increasing urbanization rates around the globe and the consequent increase of motor vehicles in cities can be translated into higher levels of traffic congestion and the marginalization of human-powered vehicles like the bicycle as a consequence, causing a potential conflict between cyclists and drivers. This work focuses on theoretical discussion of positive and negative aspects of bikesharing in urban centers. To this end, a literature review takes place to contextualize the cyclist before the drivers around the world, followed by a comparison with the Brazilian scenario. It is clear that although the Brazilian cities have potential demand for the service the lack of investment in cycling infrastructure emerges as an obstacle to the popularization of the bike as transportation in small and medium-sized urban displacements. The work contributes to the discussion on the urban mobility and accessibility by exposing the problems of bicycle use in the cities.
