Description of contemporary picturebooks in Brazilian research: a integrative review

Este artigo busca responder de que maneira as pesquisas brasileiras caracterizam o livro ilustrado contemporâneo por meio de uma revisão integrativa de literatura. Depois de uma etapa exploratória, definimos a palavra-chave ''livro ilustrado contemporâneo'' para pesquisa nas plataformas Google Acadêmico, Periódicos Capes e Scielo nos últimos cinco anos. Depois de restringir o escopo para seis artigos de análise de caso, delineamos o objetivo e metodologia de cada artigo e explicitamos a caracterização feita dos livros ilustrados contemporâneos. A discussão evidencia que a área de que parte cada um dos estudos tende a enviesar e limitar compreensão do livro ilustrado, seja pela pressuposição do público, seja pela priorização da linguagem verbal. Por isso, defendemos que uma abordagem centrada na articulação entre os elementos expressivos é capaz de expandir as possibilidades de análise. Portanto, a discussão crítica enfatizou a contribuição disciplinar que o design pode dar ao estudo dos livros ilustrados.

This paper aims to answer how the brazilian research describe contemporary picturebooks through an integrative review of literature. After an exploratory phase, we searched the literature in the last five years for the keyword “contemporary picturebook” in the platforms Google Acadêmico, Periódicos Capes and Scielo. After narrowing to six case analysis papers, we outlined the objective and the methodology of each one and we highlighted their description of contemporary picturebooks. Our following discussion shows that these papers tend to limit comprehension of picturebooks skewing it according to their knowledge area, be it by focusing in an age group or by favoring verbal language. Hence we defend an approach centered on the articulation of expressive elements expands possibilities of analysis. Therefore, the critical discussion emphasized the disciplinary contribution that design can give to the study of picturebooks.
