CONTEXTUALIZANDO A TEORIA DA BASE DE CONHECIMENTO NO CAPITALISMO PERIFÉRICO: OBSERVAÇÕES A PARTIR DA ECONOMIA BRASILEIRA

Contextualizing knowledge base theory in peripheral capitalism: evidence from the Brazilian economy

A teoria da base de conhecimento tem ganhado destaque na literatura internacional da Geografia da Inovação como uma forma de sistematizar os tipos de conhecimento (analítico, sintético e simbólico) que estão presentes nos sistemas regionais de inovação (SRI). Tendo em vista a predominância de observações de casos europeus nessa literatura, nosso objetivo é demonstrar como o contexto periférico influencia na reprodução da base de conhecimento apontando para a elevada concentração espacial e escassa demanda por inovação endógena, além dos desdobramentos da instabilidade econômica do segmento inovativo em um contexto de crise. Para isso, realizamos o agrupamento dos segmentos da indústria criativa seguindo as ocupações vinculadas aos três tipos de conhecimento. A partir dessa classificação, o nível de concentração e a instabilidade econômica foram mensurados por meio de uma análise no nível mesorregional do emprego formal.

The knowledge base theory drew the attention of Geography of Innovation literature. It proposes a systematic way to demonstrate how different types of knowledge (analytical, synthetic, and symbolic) are presented in regional innovation systems (RSI). Considering the focus of this literature in European cases, this paper aims to show the influence of peripheral context in the reproduction of the knowledge base. Then, it discusses the spatial concentration and the scarce demand for endogenous innovation, besides the effects of economic instability in the creative sector during the crisis. This analysis was made using a group of jobs related to the creative industry that was adjusted to the three types of knowledge. Subsequently, the level of spatial concentration and the economic instability was measured using a mesoregional analysis of the formal employment.
