Diseño, tecnología y futuro: rumbo a un futuro más equitativo a través de la innovación crítica

Este trabajo explora, desde una perspectiva crítica y transdisciplinaria, el papel que desempeñan el diseño y las tecnologías emergentes frente a las crisis contemporáneas, y su potencial para promover un futuro más equitativo. Se analiza la transición del diseño desde enfoques centrados en objetos hacia la articulación de sistemas complejos, destacando su capacidad de mediar en redes sociotécnicas. Asimismo, se examinan nociones como el diseño especulativo, la innovación social y la justicia tecnológica, en relación com problemáticas globales como el cambio climático, la brecha digital y las desigualdades estructurales. El artículo aborda estudios de caso como los FabLabs, la cultura maker, la inteligencia artificial y el diseño para la resiliencia comunitaria, enfatizando una ética del cuidado y la participación. Se dedica un apartado específico al contexto latinoamericano, destacando tensiones entre dependencia tecnológica y creatividad social. A través de ejemplos de apropiación tecnológica, diseño participativo y activismo visual, se evidencia el potencial del diseño para fomentar justicia cognitiva, identidad cultural y autonomía territorial. Finalmente, se concluye que tanto el diseño como la tecnología deben orientarse hacia procesos de transformación social, sustentabilidad y equidad, asumiendo su carácter político y no neutral.

In the context of global systemic crises — environmental, social, health-related, and technological — this paper offers a critical reflection on the role of contemporary design and emerging technologies as tools for social transformation. Through a transdisciplinary approach, it argues that design must go beyond traditional problem- solving to become an active mediator of possible futures, guided by values of equity, sustainability, and social justice. Key concepts such as speculative design, social innovation, technological sovereignty, and transdisciplinar design are examined, along with their application in contexts of digital exclusion, climate emergency, and public health crises. Latin American experiences in technological appropriation and participatory design are also discussed, illustrating locally driven practices oriented towards autonomy, resilience, and cognitive justice. The article concludes that both design practice and technological implementation are inherently political. Therefore, it calls for the training of professionals capable of embracing an ethic of care and commitment, contributing actively to the construction of more just, collaborative, and sustainable futures.
