In Brazil, the P-8 phase of PROCONVE (Air Pollution Control Program for Automotive Vehicles) will start in 2022. This phase is equivalent to phase EURO VI of the European legislation for heavy-duty vehicles emissions control and will introduce some technological improvements that arise concerns about the suitability of the current ULSD – Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel (10-ppm wt., maximum sulfur content) to these new technologies. In this context, this paper presents emissions tests results of a EURO VI diesel engine, with Brazilian and European ULSD, to verify the relevance of some of their properties in the pollutants emissions. The Brazilian ULSD with 7 vol.% and 10 vol.% biodiesel (B7 and B10 blends) presented similar performance to the European ones (B7), regarding hydrocarbons (HC), carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NOx), particulate matter (PM) and particle number (PN). On the other hand, the Brazilian ULSD with 15 vol.% of biodiesel (B15) in comparison with the European fuel (B7), presented higher NOx emission, without gains in terms of particulate emissions (PM and PN). In fact, the current Brazilian ULSD (B7 and B10) complies with the requirements of the EURO VI phase, for the tested engine, as the European ones.
