"The total soluble solids (TSS) index is used to quantify the concentration of sugars and other compounds present in various fruits and other plant sources. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the variation of TSS from different portions in piña of Agave sisalana. A specimen of sisal cultivated in Planosol soil was harvested and stored for 72 hours before the analysis. Different portions of the piña were collected in triplicate. The juice of all the samples was used for TSS measurement. The Brix levels of the juice from each sampled portion ranged from 4.9º to 17.8º. TSS increased in the piña from the base to the top and from the center to the edges. The TSS results for different parts of fresh piña varied from lower to higher when compared to the TSS of other Agave species."
