During the last two decades, the introduction of digital multimedia into themuseums, monuments and exhibition spaces describe a new open and flexibleinstitution, which is attentive to the needs of its visitors. In fact, many differentopinions, preferences and personalized agendas acquire now a symbioticrelationship with the strict archeological site contexts with ICT. This relationshipis established the moment that the actual space comes into terms with the visitors'needs and without compromising spatially, it reveals all the different movementalternatives that could satisfy the visitor. In fact, ICTs create alternativeexperiences through the juxtaposition of a digital layer on physical space.Drawing on this objective, this paper studies the relation between user andmonument by enhancing their interaction in the Municipal Market of Chania, inCrete. The objective of the paper is to examine how state-of-the-art IoT systemscan be seamlessly incorporated into the smart cultural heritage strategy of thesuggested place. The macroscope is to explore alternatives strategies to enhancesustainable tourism in Chania.
