From Socioecological Issues to Interdisciplinary Project: A Human Urine Recycling System Case Study.

From Socioecological Issues to Interdisciplinary Project: A Human Urine Recycling System Case Study.

Aubois-Liogier, Valentin ;

Poster:

The complexity of socioecological issues are challenging traditional academic fields. One cannot address a complex contemporary socioecological issue only from the point of view of one academic field. Thus, how are socioeocological issues challenging academic fields? And, how Design is playing a part in that? Design is known for its capacity to work with different disciplines, but how design is addressing socioecological issues in practice? Based on a doctoral Research Through Design (RTD) project in ecological sanitation, the poster shows why and how interdisciplinarity, or even transdisciplinarity, is needed. Theoretical issues are raised from the case study concerning Design in terms of scale, history, and skills.
