Full Article:
This article compares the positioning of two authors concerning issues such as ownership by the citizens of the communication and information technology, collective work in network and intellectual property. Armand Mattelart (2005) presents the view that the dream of a world society would be technically near, but this would depend on geopolitical and economic provisions for its accomplishment. He believes that the appropriation of media by citizens, made possible by technology, again puts in evidence the hegemonic project of planetary integration of the pioneers of science of information. Michael Nielsen (2012) states that technology enables work groups and the formation of a collective intelligence. For this purpose, he defends the publication of primary research data that would be used by the granting of proper credits to the authors. In both cases, are presented the concern about the disclosure of research results and the creation of technological innovations aiming the common good. The objective of this study was to identify relationships between Mattelart (2005) and Nielsen (2012) ideas through the light of the concepts of information science. It is considered necessary to extend the discussion about the proper ownership of networked technologies by researchers, avoiding under-utilization of available resources and working up to the progress of science.
