MAPPING OF PROSOPIS JULIFLORA PLANTING AND CULTIVATION IN BRAZIL: A PRELIMINARY STUDY

"The purpose of this study was to conduct a preliminary investigation into the introduction and spread of Prosopis juliflora (also known as algaroba, in portuguese) in Brazil, focusing on biomass production for energy purposes and the main producers of algaroba. The methodology involved a literature review. The findings revealed that algaroba has a higher yield than soybeans, and it can be grown in similar climate and soil conditions as soybeans and sugarcane, which are used as raw materials for the biofuels industry. The energy transition may not occur rapidly, and there is an opportunity to enhance the use of biofuels by exploring new biomass sources that are well-suited to the climatic conditions of the caatinga, such as algaroba."
