The research proposes an investigation into the presence of museum collections in the field of design and material culture, available on the network, observing collections from historical museums such as: Museu Paulista, Museo del Prado and the Museum of Design and Fashion of Portugal, in order to raise possibilities that help the preservation and dissemination of the collection of the Historical and Artistic Museum of Maranhão - MHAM, expanding and guaranteeing preservation in digital format. Knowing the national and international museological scene in the area of ​​design and material culture, focusing on institutions that make their collections available online and verifying the potential of virtual museums in the contemporary context. Mapping available digital platforms and identifying groups of memory and heritage that act on networks. This project seeks to understand the characteristic aspects of museums in the digital environment and the online availability of the collections, having as a case study the digitization of the collection of the Historical and Artistic Museum of Maranhão - MHAM, aiming to contribute and encourage new interdisciplinary research in the field of design and material culture, debating the value of the museological object after its resignification in the space of networks from on-site visits to museums that already articulate their collections both physically and digitally, as well as a bibliographical review in the areas of museology, memory , design and cyberculture. Also rethinking the value of objects in this environment without temporal boundaries, evoking and transcending the enjoyment of the white cube, since the museum-interface presents new museum and curatorial strategies, beyond the traditional spaces, thus becoming a device participatory action. In this sense, the museum creates a social interface.
