This paper describes a recent make-a-thon event to engage architecture studentswith physical computing systems while working with engineering andentrepreneurship students. Focusing on the scale of the object or device, thepedagogical goals were to create a productive, transdisciplinary exchange--apluralistic blend of design charrette, engineering hackathon, and entrepreneurialpitch competition. The Arduino platform and active learning methods weredeployed in order to engage with a novice, diverse group of students, leading tooutcomes that were responsive to the ever-shifting technological landscape andcould be spun into future commercial ventures.
