POLYMERIC MEMBRANE TECHNOLOGIES FOR REMOVING ACID GASES FROM NATURAL GAS

POLYMERIC MEMBRANE TECHNOLOGIES FOR REMOVING ACID GASES FROM NATURAL GAS

Abeyta, Kimberly Paim ; Campos, Igor Oliveira de Freitas ; Menezes, Tamires dos Reis ; Marques, Sara ;

Completo:

"Acid gases (CO2 and H2S) are considered critical contaminants in natural gas production, they are associated with the corrosion of treatment unit installations and the de-characterization of the product for commercialization. Membrane separation is a key technology for the treatment of this gas, especially in offshore environments and plants with high operating pressure. However, a major challenge is the plasticization caused by the high CO2 pressure, which severely reduces the effectiveness of the membranes. This review highlights the latest strategies used to operate membranes under the above conditions, including treatments such as crosslinking, mixed matrix and polymer blending in polymeric membranes."
