Oral:
Silica has been extracted from rice husks via a simple hydrothermal process and functionalized with triethoxy(octyl)silane (OCTES) and (3- aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (3-APTES) to be used as supports to immobilize lipase from Thermomyces lanuginosus (TLL) via physical adsorption. TLL immobilization on the support functionalized with OCTES (Octyl–SiO2) and 3-APTES (Amino–SiO2) occurred via hydrophobic and ionic interactions, respectively. The supports were characterized by particle size, atomic force microscopy (AFM), elemental analysis (CHN), N2 physisorption analysis and Rose Bengal dye adsorption, thus confirming their functionalization. TLL was fully adsorbed on both functionalized supports while partial adsorption on non-functionalized support has been observed. These results show that functionalized SiO2 can be successfully used as supports in lipase immobilization.
