Dear SIGraDi Community, Each new conference is an opportunity to increase the knowledge and discuss experiences on architecture, design, art and education related to the digital environment. In addition, it is also an opportunity to disseminate our work as professionals, educators and researchers, and revitalize our institutional and personal relations. This year we are at the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, Valparaíso, Chile, thanks to the efforts and dedication of a qualified group of colleagues who worked with great energy in organizing the XVII Congress of SIGraDi, across borders and successfully overcoming obstacles that had arisen. Thanks go out to the Local Organizing Committee! The topic “Knowledge-based Design” proposes a reflection on ways of thinking and doing design in relation to information and digital resources. Today more than ever, thanks to current technological developments, it is possible to integrate science and art to produce objects, spaces, and new experiences that respond creatively to the social problems of our time, by transforming information into open, collaborative, and accessible knowledge.
