In this paper I discuss similarities between Ikea’s profile and Sweden as a brand: Ikea’s co-opting of a nationally inflicted discourse of social democracy and how Sweden, in turn, has co-opted Ikea as an index of national values. Ikea provides an example of the relationships between perceptions of national image and the process of imaging the national.
