This article presents the methodology, the theoretical and the field research, and the results of a project that culminated in the conceptualization and development of a series of books aimed at children beginning literacy. As a basis for the editorial design, theoretical research covered topics such as child development, typography, layout, ergonomics, techniques and styles of illustration, among others. Beyond these items, the research also covers an analysis on children’s books available in the market and a field research. The paper also discusses, in detail, the process of developing the editorial project of the collection of books, focusing on one of the books that compose the collection.
