O crescimento da firma depende de duas dimensões: o conjunto de recursos que a define e a diferencia das demais firmas e o ambiente no qual a firma está inserida. Com base em seu conjunto de recursos e imersas em um ambiente específico, as empresas adotam estratégias com objetivo de promover o crescimento da firma. Esse processo resulta na transformação do próprio conjunto de recursos a disposição das firmas e, ao mesmo tempo, altera o ambiente no qual estão inseridas, modificando a trajetória de crescimento da firma de forma coevolutiva. O artigo investiga a emergência de novas estratégias empresariais na indústria farmacêutica, fruto de transformações em sua dinâmica competitiva, através da análise das operações patrimoniais realizadas no setor entre 1997 e 2015. Os resultados indicam a emergência de dois padrões. Um associado ao surgimento de start-ups biotecnológicas e de experimentação nos países centrais, e outro, à busca de novos espaços de acumulação para indústria farmacêutica nos mercados farmacêuticas emergentes.

The growth of the firm depends on two dimensions: the pool of resources that define each firm and the environment that surrender it. Based on its pool of resources and grounded on specifics environments, firms adopts strategies pursuing growth. This process impact the resources of the firms and, concurrently, affect its environment, changing his evolutionary path in a coevolutive way. The article analyzes the emergence of business strategies using micro-data about mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures involving the pharmaceutical industry between 1997 and 2015. The emergence of two patterns was identified: The first one, localized on central economies, was related to the emergence of startups. The other was related to the pursuing of new accumulation spaces for the industry in the peripherical countries.
