A ride through Brasília Teimosa – The game as a tool for the construction of social identities

This article presents the findings of a study conducted with children (between 11 and 14 years) residents in the neighborhood of Brasília Teimosa, in the south area of Recife. A board game – here understood as an artifact of Information Design – was used, telling the neighborhood history and revealing the cultural, social, geographical and environmental aspects of this first settlement in the urban territory of Recife. The results suggest that a learning artifact designed to reinforce the local identity can access a common semantic field of the group in relation to the perception of the neighborhood where they live. There is also evidence of contributions to teaching and learning contents both those included in the game and those already worked in the classroom or by the children’s families.
