This paper aims to discuss the relationship between image and text not from a syntactic view point, but from a semantic perspective. Will relate the work of Marsh and White (2003), which consists of a taxonomy of functions that image is compared with the text, along with Barthes''s theories about this relationship. Text-image pairs will be analyzed to exemplify the approach of the authors on the subject, and in the end we discuss the importance of this issue for information design.
