Notes to the history of type founding in 20th century Brazil: the case of Funtimod

Through bibliographical research in newspapers, official documents, trade registers, type specimens published by the company, and graphic arts magazines, we outlined the first notes about the type casting section in Funtimod, one of the major Brazilian companies of machinery and graphic supplies of the 20th century. In this paper, we present relevant information, such as the date of creation of the company, corporate changes, opening of branches, importation of casting machines, incorporation of type matrices. We also present news about the existence of letter engravers in the company, and on the acceptance of the typeface Eldorado by the national market.
