Relations between typography and pictograms in signage project

It is considered that both typefaces as pictograms should have formal characteristics common to possess and cohesion within a signaling system, both should form a larger unit. This article sets out six criteria for interaction between typography and pictogram to be taken into account in a signage project: (a) thickness, (b) shape, (c)-style figure, (d) relationship with upper or lower case, (e) the background and (f) weight. The criteria were established based on a review and analysis of validated projects markings by students of Design (Visual and Product) Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS).
