The design and science education: the design of visual artifacts for a scientific exhibition

The article discusses the importance of designing and building communicational objects towards the dissemination of science in non-formal education spaces, from the perspective of the General Theory of Signs, in parallel to theories concerning analogies as strategies of knowledge improvement. It analyzes the representational dynamics of the signs, i.e., objects, pictures, words, sounds and ideas in meaningful relationships. The article also describes the development of objects named MAES -3DMF (Models Analogs to Outer Space in 3D Fluid Medium) and the organization of the visual communication structure made up for the exhibition entitled Espaço Multiverso. The intention of this work is to discuss on what would be the role of museums and exhibitions, classified as non-formal education spaces, in the process of building knowledge and culture. The methodology of research was based on some pillars: a theory review relevant to the theme, both designs from the MAES -3DMF and the exhibition, the application of research instruments and data analysis. The results indicate positive horizons that enable the discussion of caution in designing pedagogical models and communication tools based on analogies. They signalize new teaching perspectives, and also dissemination and democratization of scientific concepts to non-specialist audiences.
