Thermal response of random heterogeneous fgm plates

Abstract:
The present study presents the thermal response of FGM plates considering that the structure properties are random and vary along the thickness. The macroscopic effective material properties of the graded plates are assumed to be temperature independent and the variation through the thickness direction follows a power-law distribution of the constituents volume fractions. Uncertain properties of the materials are considered as normal, lognormal and Poisson distributions. The resulting mathematical model is discretized employing Finite Element Methods and the resulting thermo-mechanical problem is solved by means of a staggered algorithm which is capable of handling complex transient problems without upsetting the unconditional stability property characteristic of fully implicit schemes. Numerical simulations are presented for cases with FGM plates submitted to thermal shocks.
